Before the legends: Santos in 1912

Prem Football · AI-assisted editorial explainer · Published 18 October 2026

Santos FC dates its foundation to 14 April 1912. Its official archive describes the founding meeting in the city centre, above a bakery.

It is a striking place to begin a football story: not a trophy presentation or a packed stadium, but a meeting of people creating a club. Club histories can connect the famous names supporters recognise with the communities that came before them.

Follow the club’s Portuguese-language archive for the account behind the date. Which South American club should come next?
